Rebates Available Through Nicor energySMART Program

Nicor’s energySMART program offers simple steps toward energy savings.  The energySMART program includes an energy assessment, free products and rebates on high efficiency products for your home.  If you are a Nicor customers planning to purchase a furnace or heating and cooling system, visit www.nicorgasrebates.com for more information on how you can save. Loan programs are also available.

If you are a ComEd customers, you can also find information on Air Conditioning rebates on the ComEd website.

Upcoming Changes to Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program

2014 11-04

Starting June 1, 2014, the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program will become energySMART, a Nicor Gas Program. Nicor Gas customers will continue to be offered rebates and resources to save energy through energySMART.  However, some offers will change, including furnace rebates which are expected to be reduced by as much as $100 per unit for installations completed on or after June 1, 2014.

Now is the best time to invest in a high-efficiency furnace!

Important dates to remember
To qualify for current rebate amounts, adhere to the following dates:

  • May 31, 2014 – All qualifying equipment must be installed under the current rebate plan
  • June 30, 2014 – All rebate applications must be submitted for qualifying equipment installed by May 31st
  • June 1, 2014 – A new program year begins!

On Bill Financing Available From Nicor

Eligible residential customers of Nicor Gas can apply for a low-interest loan to purchase a high-efficiency furnace through the Illinois Energy Efficiency Loan Program. A loan through the program can be paired with a rebate for a qualifying furnace through the Nicor Gas Rebate Program for even greater value. Installments on the loans will be conveniently included on your monthly gas bills. Credit approval is required.

How Does Your Furnace Work?

The Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program is kicking off heating season with a new fall furnace campaign to show you how a furnace works and the benefits of a high-efficiency system.  Go to nicorgasrebates.com/box  to learn the importance of investing in a high-efficiency furnace and how to maintain this equipment.

At this same website, you can watch a video and take a short quiz to test their furnace IQ. After taking the quiz you can receive a free energy saving kit or reusable tote bag. Nicor’s goal is to optimize comfort, safety and operation of furnaces for natural gas customers.

Nicor Utility Rebate Changes – Effective June 1, 2013

Nicor is entering the third year of their rebate program, and some changes have been made.  The new changes are effective for the program period of June 1, 2013 to May 31, 2014.  Furnace and Water Heater changes are below.

Furnaces
$200 ≥ 92% AFUE (no change)
$300 ≥ 95% AFUE (was $250)
$400 ≥ 97% AFUE (was $500)

Storage Water Heaters
$100 – ENERGY STAR qualified with Energy Factor ≥ 0.67

Other Highlights include:

  • Complete System Rebates increase for customers of by Nicor and ComEd
  • Value Package Rebates are available when installing the furnace, air conditioner, water heater, pipe insulation and programmable thermostat
  • New rebate application and easier process to apply
  • New fact sheet

Rebates are also available on Boilers, indirect water heaters, hot water pipe insulation and programmable thermostats.  The rebate amounts for these items will not change in the new program year.

Complete System Rebates Are Increasing For Nicor & ComEd Customers

Consumers can take advantage of additional savings from Nicor & ComEd when they install a furnaces and air conditioner between February 1st and April 30th.

Extra $100 from ComEd for Complete System rebates with a 14.5+ SEER A/C:
92%+ AFUE furnace & 14.5+ SEER A/C = $700 ($350 from ComEd and $350 from Nicor Gas)
95%+ AFUE furnace & 14.5+ SEER A/C = $750 ($350 from ComEd and $400 from Nicor Gas)
97%+ AFUE furnace & 14.5+ SEER A/C = $850 ($350 from ComEd and $500 from Nicor Gas)
 
Extra $250 from ComEd for Complete System rebates with a  16+ SEER A/C:
92%+ AFUE furnace & 16+ SEER A/C = $850 ($500 from ComEd and $350 from Nicor Gas)
95%+ AFUE furnace & 16+ SEER A/C = $900 ($500 from ComEd and $400 from Nicor Gas)
97%+ AFUE furnace & 16+ SEER A/C = $1,000 ($500 from ComEd and $500 from Nicor Gas)

They also increased the amount a consumer can receive on their value package bundles.  Bundles include Furnace, A/C, storage water heater with a > 0.67 energy factor, 6 feet of hot water pipe insulation and a qualifying programmable thermostat.
